Seminar - BreakThrough Behavior

"Kay"

Kay is being admitted to the Special Care Unit of Tick Tock Manor. This is a specially designed unit which is “locked and keyed” for persons with Alzheimer disease and related dementias. Kay is accompanied by her daughter, Janice.

From the moment they step off the elevator, Kay begins shouting, “I’m not staying here, you can’t make me stay here.” Her daughter attempts to calm her mother.

This only provokes Kay more, “if you make me stay here, I will kill myself,” and she takes off pacing down the hall. Kay is carrying a handbag, and she is now swinging it. Anyone who comes near to Kay or talks to her, she swings her handbag, hitting them.

One of the caregivers says to Kay, “would you like a glass of juice?” to which Kay screams back, “I TOLD you, I’m NOT staying here.”

Another caregiver offers to help Kay remove her coat, which only agitates her even more. She runs away down the hall, hitting anyone she reaches with her handbag.

The above illustrates a situation where the individual’s anger is out of control. At this moment, Kay refuses to be consoled. In the Breakthrough Behaviors seminars, caregivers will………..

  • learn the secrets and strategies to deal with angry outbursts such as Kay’s

  • be inspired to recognize who this person was prior to the diagnosis of dementia
  • be motivated to deal with these Breakthrough Behaviors

  • be challenged to focus on familiar when doing tasks together

  • be empowered in care by utilizing the Circle of Care model

Enroll in this seminar today and you, the caregiver, will discover amazing results in dealing with these challenging behaviors. This seminar will create solutions for you the caregiver, as well as the person you are caring for.
